Washington state’s Initiative 594, which seeks to a close loopholes in background check laws for gun purchases, just got some major support in the form of a $1 million donation from Microsoft co-founderBill Gates and his wife Melinda. The philanthropic couple disclosed Monday that they had contributed to the campaign, bringing the fundraising total above the $6 million mark ahead of this November’s election.

In addition to the Gates’ donation, the campaign has received a total of $1.4 million from original Amazon investor Nick Hanauer and $500,000 from Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. Former Microsoft CEO, and new owner of the L.A. Clippers, Steve Ballmer contributed $580,000.

“We are pleased to join many others making a donation to the Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility to support Initiative 594 on the November ballot,” the Gates said in a joint statement. “We believe it will be an effective and balanced approach to improving gun safety in our state by closing existing loopholes for background checks.”

A poll from July showed support for the gun control initiative reaching 70% of potential voters. A competing measure, which would prohibit the state from adopting stricter background check standards than national laws dictate, had support from 46% of voters. Curiously, 32% of respondents said they would vote for both initiatives.

Jeezy Gets Arrested For Gun Possession, Possible Suspect In Wiz Khalifa Concert Shooting

Update (Aug. 26, 4:45 pm): New information in this story has been leaking out, as reported by the San Jose Mercury News. According to the paper, Jeezy was one of six people arrested—the other five were apparently working for the Under The Influence Of Music Tour—all on suspicion of possessing an assault rifle, and are currently not considered suspects in the shooting death of Eric Johnson, who was killed backstage at the show on Friday. Mountain View police sergeant Saul Jaeger confirmed to the paper that no arrests had been made in the homicide investigation, and that police were still searching for one suspect, with the gun involved likely a “black pistol with a large magazine.”

Jeezy, however, was one of only three suspects in the weapons possession arrests whose bail was set at $1 million. The Mercury News also spoke with legal analyst and former Santa Clara County prosecutor Steven Clark about the case, with Clark indicating that police probably know more than they are letting on. “If they didn’t think [Jeezy] had significant knowledge about the homicide, I can’t imagine why he’d have a million-dollar bail,” Clark told the paper. Check out the full report here.

Original Story: Jeezy might have to sit out the rest of the Under The Influence Tour. The rapper was arrested on Sunday (Aug. 24) before hitting the stage at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, Calif. in connection to a deadly shooting Friday night in Mountain View, Calif. The shooting led Jeezy and others to cancel their tour stop Saturday.

According to TMZ police are investigating the “No Tears” rapper for a shooting that involved a man getting hit five times. Police found an assault rifle believed to belong to Jeezy as well guns on several members of his entourage. He is currently still in custody. His bail is $1 million.

Too Many Fake Stories – Samini’s Camp Responds To Story About Mzbel

Mzbel-300x191

In the said story, Samini was quoted as saying that, “Who is Mzbel? How long has she been doing music and what impact has she made? After ‘16 years’, she could’ve been one of the greatest female musicians from Ghana, but she let drugs and laziness get in her way. Her opinion does not matter to me really.”

The camp of Ghanaian Dancehall artiste, Samini has rubbished a story captioned “Samini Replies Mzbel” which is on most Ghanaian entertainment blogs.

But the handlers of the artiste denied ever replying Mzbel after she had said that, she prefers Samini’s fiercest rival during a televisioninterview.

A rejoinder signed by Anthony Daning of HighGradeFamily-SaminiMusic, copied to GhanaGist.Com said that, the story is a mere fabrication.

They ended by saying that, “We advice the originators of the Story to clarify the said story and adhere to Responsible Journalism. Crass Journalism is not what Ghana needs now. All other carriers of the Story in Question are herein adviced!

Below is the statement from Samini’s Camp unedited.

The said Story is fabricated. It is regrettable that a website like OMG Ghana or originator of the Story will publish such an untruth meant to deceive, slander and cause public disaffection.

The news website OMG Ghana or its originators acknowledge that the story is a satirical- spoof. This is regrettable when many artiste and industry players are calling for ethical reportage and not hogwash.

The Statement “Who is Mzbel? How long has she been doing music and what impact has she made? After ‘16 years,’ she could’ve been one of the greatest female musicians from Ghana, but she let drugs and laziness get in her way. Her opinion does not matter to me really.” IS TOTALLY FALSE AND FABRICATED.

Samini is currently in the UK performing, and doing what He does Best, entertaining the masses and inspiring them as always. Samini is a Gentleman and always will be. And particularly has no issues whatsoever with MzBel.

We advice the originators of the Story to clarify the said story and adhere to Responsible Journalism. Crass Journalism is not what Ghana needs now. All other carriers of the Story in Question are herein adviced!

Amazing Photos: Gospel Singer, Sonnie Badu weds Ann-Marie Davis in London

sonnie-Badu-298x300

A pastor or Gospel musician commits no ‘haram’ singing or dancing to secular music in public. And yet on such rare occasions when he does, there is always the element of oddity and a spectacle of shock that greets the atmosphere no matter the occasion.

And when the secular song in question has sexually explicit content the shock, at times turns, into absolute disbelief. But never be in a hurry to judge and indict.

For all you know, the man of God is, and at that opportune time, giving unto Ceasar what was Ceasar’s and later onto God what belongs to God.

That scenario could well describe the wedding atmosphere of Ghana’s Gospel Super star Sonnie Badu who on his spirit filled days opens the heavens with his songs and blesses the saints with the heavenly rains.

On that day and with his newly wedded wife,  Ann-Marie Davis, Sonnie Badu in the couple’s first dance sang and danced to love and what better song choice was there than the rhythmic rendition of Kwabena Kwabena’s Adult Music with Samini.

God is good and he is love. Badu danced to love and with his wife. For years and with his sweet gospel songs, Badu gave to God what belonged to God and on his wedding day he gave love to his wife.

He got busy showing off his love dance skills busily caressing his wife as they both swung and moved to the heavy Adult Music tune.

As he was currently in Philadelphia on tour with Drake, Wayne could not be in attendance to pick up his trophy. This is also not the first time that Weezy has won this award as he won it back in 2012, 2010, and 2009.

Ama K Hits Back At People Hating Her Ice Bucket Challenge Participation

ama-k-abebreseIt’s not everyone who is happy about filling a bucket with ice and water and pouring it over their head to raise money. Over the past few days, the ALSice bucket challenge has taken over the globe with lightening speed. The challenge has been done by Ex-presidents, movie stars, sports personalities and celebrities in general. Ama K, who was challenged by a lady called Lea who lives in Canada, did her challenge before the 24hr run out. Ever since her actions, she has come under loads of negative response because people see this challenge as a “white-man” thing.

Ama responded via her Facebook page and explained why she took the challenge. She sees nothing wrong with it as she has actually donated to a charity. Read what she has to say below

“It’s been an interesting few days on the world of the internet for me. I never imagined that donating money and taking part in the Ice Bucket Challenge would incite so much hate from internet trolls. I was challenged by a lady called Lea who lives in Canada-pictured- and it was drawn to my attention by Steph- who uploaded it on Instagram and tagged me (as you can see in the pic below).
I accepted the challenge in good faith for the Children’s Heart Foundation Ghana (second picture). I think the Ice Bucket Challenge although started in aid of ALS is a great way to raise money for other charities as well. It’s really about the donation for me. I mustered up the courage and did my challenge within 24 hours and posted it on Instagram (15 seconds max). About 30 minutes later, I posted the video on my Facebook page as well – I stated that I was did the ALS Ice Bucket challenge and will be donating to charity because of my participation. That’s when the internet hate burst on my page in a way I have never witnessed before.
Things like— No one nominated me and I just decided to get attention by nominating myself. Also, I should not have done the Ice BucketChallenge because black people don’t get it ALS (really- like the disease discriminates). So many insults that I will not even repeat. So many people seem to have missed the point. Interestingly there were some who claimed I am jumping on the bandwagon and yet by following thoses who were on my page to bash without knowing the full story; they themselves were jumping on the ‘bashing’ bandwagon. Ohh the irony. Some blogs even went on to write about my challenge in a very negative way- though I can’t say that even shocked me.
I don’t mind criticism, there is nothing wrong with it, after all constructive critique helps us and the word ‘celebrity’ means you will receive plenty of it but I do not tolerate negativity or hate from anyone. For example;- people say they did not see the ice in my video- I didn’t use cubes, I used crushed ice instead. (So ooops arrest me… He hee).
It would be nice if instead of people coming on my page to spew hate, and tell me who I should donate to or how I should do it- that they did something themselves- for whatever causes or charities that is close to their hearts.
Some people are very hateful and will use any excuse to spread their hate.
Ohh well….

Be blessed y’all.”
